Where intentional design meets the art of transformation.
Someone with less experience than you is running retreats that change people at their core. Not because they're more gifted. Because they learned how to design the experience — not just fill it with content.
Most facilitators are deeply gifted at being present with people. What's rarely taught is how to design the arc — the intentional sequence of space, ritual, psychology, and integration that allows real change to take root.
Without that design layer, even the most heartfelt retreat risks leaving participants inspired for a week and unchanged by Tuesday.
No other experience design training covers this intersection — and no retreat facilitation training teaches the full arc from intention to integration to the operational reality of making it happen.
You've held a retreat — or you're planning one — and you sense the gap between a moving experience and one that changes something at the core.
The vision is clear. The execution feels overwhelming. You're piecing it together from different sources, hoping it coheres.
You work beautifully one-on-one. But in a group, you're not always sure how to read what the room needs — or how to respond when the energy shifts.
You want to create something that lasts beyond the closing circle. You just don't yet have the architecture for it.
"A retreat is not a programme. It's a living container — and containers are designed, not assembled."
— Katja WallischKatja Wallisch has spent over 15 years designing experiences that shift how people relate to themselves, each other, and the environments they move through — from private 1:1 and group retreats, intimate ceremonies, and bespoke gatherings for private clients, founders and leaders, to immersive brand and cultural experiences.
Her work is grounded in psychological sequencing, a precise attention to space and atmosphere, and a commitment to designing for what unfolds after the experience as much as what happens within it. She works with intention, ritual, and nature as active elements in the design process, drawing on a background in transformation coaching, facilitation, and experience design.
Katja has lectured in Transformative Experience Design at Salzburg University, contributed to courses on impact and retreat experience design, and advises on immersive formats and experience architecture.
Retreat Alchemy is her invitation to pass this on — in a form you can learn, apply, and make your own.
